About Lumana

Our Approach

There’s a difference between experiencing what a practice can offer and learning how to access it for yourself.

At Lumana, we offer both: meaningful guided experiences, alongside the knowledge and practical tools to support your own practice in everyday life.

Our approach recognizes rest as an essential part of wellbeing, while creating space to slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and support nervous system regulation through sound, yoga, meditation, breath practices, mindful rest, and other contemplative practices.

Our work is rooted in traditional practices that have explored the relationship between body, breath, and mind for thousands of years, brought into modern life in ways that feel accessible, relevant, and practical.

We recognize that every person arrives with a unique body, history, and set of needs. Rather than focusing on performance or achievement, we invite you to slow down, listen inward, and connect with your experience as it is. Our approach is grounded in choice, curiosity, and respect for individual experience.

We do not believe that practitioners heal or fix others. Instead, we aim to create supportive conditions for rest, awareness, learning, and reconnection — giving you space to discover what supports you and develop practices you can return to in your own life.

What you discover here is yours to carry forward.

Our Story

Lumana was founded by partners Mel and Randy through a shared passion for mental health, wellbeing, and the transformative potential of therapeutic practice.

The two met while studying yoga therapy, where they discovered a deeply aligned philosophy rooted in nervous system regulation, compassionate care, and the belief that meaningful healing begins with presence rather than performance. With shared values, complementary strengths, and a mutual vision for the future, Lumana emerged as a natural expression of the work they both felt called to offer.

Today, Lumana offers classes, workshops, and therapeutic experiences that support rest, resilience, self-awareness, and meaningful connection. Many of its offerings take place at Within Yoga & Sound.

The Practice of Sound

Randy's relationship with sound has grown over many years of study, practice, and careful listening. At the heart of Lumana is one of Canada's most thoughtfully curated collections of therapeutic sound instruments.

His journey began with crystal singing bowls before discovering a deep connection with the gong during his sound therapy training. Since then, he has assembled handcrafted gongs from makers across Nepal, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, China, British Colombia, Toronto, and beyond, each selected for its distinct voice, resonance, and character.

Alongside the gongs, Randy works with Peter Hess® Sound Massage bowls, crystal singing bowls, monochords, chimes, and other carefully chosen instruments to create immersive sound experiences that support deep rest, nervous system regulation, and meaningful moments of stillness.

The Practice of Movement

Movement has been a lifelong practice for Mel. Her background in dance, gymnastics, yoga, and embodied movement continues to shape the way she teaches today.

Over time, she discovered that movement could be more than physical practice. It became a way of deepening awareness, regulating the nervous system, processing lived experience, and reconnecting with the body in meaningful ways.

This understanding continues to shape her therapeutic approach, particularly when supporting those navigating stress, trauma, and periods of disconnection. Rather than focusing on performance or achievement, movement becomes an opportunity to listen inward, explore with curiosity, and build a deeper relationship with the body.

While she continues to appreciate the artistry and discipline of physical practice, her greatest interest lies in helping people understand and experience movement as a tool they can return to — for presence, regulation, self-awareness, and connection in everyday life.

Our Philosophy

At Lumana, we believe wellbeing is not something we need to force or achieve. It is something we can learn to support, cultivate, and reconnect with.

Modern life can keep us busy, distracted, and disconnected from ourselves. Through sound, movement, breath, meditation, rest, and contemplative practice, we create opportunities to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.

We believe the body has an innate capacity for balance and wellbeing. By learning to listen inward and understand the relationship between body, breath, and mind, we can begin to recognize what supports us — and develop practical tools to return to in everyday life.

Our role is not to heal or fix anyone. It is to create supportive environments for experience, exploration, and learning, where people can reconnect with the wisdom and resilience already within them.

This practice belongs to you.
